Local students who have completed the Pope John Paul II Award have made a donation to the Oisín McGrath Foundation. The Foundation was formed in memory of 13 year Oisín from Belcoo, who lost his life tragically in 2015. The Foundation is inspired by Oisín’s life and formed both to keep his spirit alive and to inspire others through his memory.

Oisín’s St Michael’s College classmates completed their Pope John Paul II Award earlier this year. The Award enables participants to take an active part in the life of their Church, their community and society. The Award is also committed to helping young people enhance their spiritual, emotional and social development through participation in school, parish and community. Through a series of fundraising activities the boys decided to make a donation to the Oisín McGrath Foundation.
Administered by the Fermanagh Trust, the Foundation provides financial support to young people to demonstrate exceptional commitment and ability to the world of sport but may be held back by their financial situation from pursuing their goals.
Oisín’s mum Sharon McGrath said “Congratulations to the boys on completing their Pope John Paul II Award. We are so grateful for their support and this donation. As classmates of Oisín, it’s particularly touching that they decided to fundraise for the Foundation. Thanks to them we will be able to support even more young people and groups, assisting them in their sports development, celebrating Oisín’s life and his love and commitment to sport.”
The fund is open again and will accept applications from individuals or groups. Closing date for applications is 28th February 2020. Applicants to the Oisín McGrath Foundation must be between 11 and 18 years of age and residents in Fermanagh or the surrounding area.
