New fund opens for the Drumquin area - Cornavarrow and Slieveglass Wind Farm Fund

Energia Renewables, owners of the Cornavarrow and Slieveglass wind farms have announced a new community fund which is now open for applications.

Energia has set up the fund to ensure that the wind farms, whilst having obvious environmental benefits, will also provide significant social and economic benefits to the local community in the Killen and Drumquin area.

Small one off grants will be available for various activities. For groups working in partnership on strategic projects grants will be available up to a maximum of £5000 per annum over a 1-3 year period.

For the Cornavarrow Wind Farm onlythe company is inviting significant strategic projects to submit applications for capital grant aid, up to £25,000 over a 5 year period. Only projects which make a significant contribution to improving the health and well being of the local community will be considered for capital funding.

Peter Baillie, Managing Director of Energia Renewables said “We are confident that many local community organisations and voluntary groups in Drumquin and the surrounding area will see the benefit of this initiative. Energia Renewables is very committed to getting resources and much needed funding on the ground within the communities where we invest."

These grant awards will be administered by the Fermanagh Trust who manage a number of wind farm funds. Grants will be available to community projects located within 5km of Cornavarrow Wind Farm, which covers Drumquin or 5km of the Slieveglass Wind Farm, which covers Killen.

Lauri McCusker, Director of the Fermanagh Trust added “Energia has established this sizeable fund which is a huge opportunity for local groups to do great things over the coming years. We know there are a number of dedicated community organisations and some fantastic voluntary projects taking place and we look forward to seeing applications coming in.”
