Latest grant awards from the Fermanagh Recreational Trust

The Fermanagh Recreational Trust continue to support the County’s sporting talent, recently awarding grants to three organisations and two outstanding young people.

The Trust is helping Enniskillen Royal Boat Club purchase new boats. The successful club has over 100 rowers aged between 12 – 18. The young rowers are highly dedicated, committed and hungry to succeed. The new boats will hugely improve the club’s ability to develop sporting skills.

Enniskillen Lakelanders amateur swimming club, which has over 100 members, will use their grant for coaching costs. The club is recognised as having a competitive presence both regionally and nationally, having fielded successful teams in league competitions as well as numerous individual events.

Enniskillen Rugby Club will use their Fermanagh Recreational Trust grant towards their coaching programme. Since the inception of their youth strategy scheme, the club has placed a special emphasis on working with all schools throughout the county, introducing both boys and girls to the game at a very early age. Under normal circumstances these children wouldn’t have the opportunity to experience rugby.

Former Enniskillen Rugby Club player Kathryn Dane is now a member of the Ulster Senior Women’s team as well as Ireland’s Senior Womens team. The Fermanagh Recreational Trust is supporting Kathryn in her coaching and travel as her next big aim is selection for the Ireland Senior Women’s Rugby Team in the 2021 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.

James Cooper Trustee of the Fermanagh Recreational Trust presents grant award to Ellie McCartney

For the second year in a row, Enniskillen Lakelanders member Ellie McCartney has won four gold medals at the Summer Swimming Championships making 17 national titles to date. Ellie’s success has qualified her for the Swim Ireland Regional Development Squad which involved an intense training schedule which the Fermanagh Recreational Trust is supporting. This is working towards the aim of competing in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

James Cooper, trustee of the Fermanagh Recreational Trust said “We are delighted to be in a position to support our talented local sports stars with these grant awards. Kathryn and Ellie have already proven so much in their chosen fields and by being well on their way to the World Cup and Olympics show just how much Fermanagh is punching above it’s weight. It’s also great to see Enniskillen Royal Boat Club, Enniskillen Lakelanders Amateur Swimming Club and Enniskillen Rugby Club continue to develop their programmes, increasing levels of participation by young people and the wider community. Congratulations and we wish all of them every success."
