Funding available for Brookeborough area from the Teiges Mountain Wind Farm Fund

The Teiges Mountain Wind Farm Fund is open again for applications. Leading wind farm owner and operator, Energia Group, set up the Teiges community benefit wind farm fund to ensure that the wind farm, whilst having environmental benefits, will also provide significant social and economic benefits to the local community in the Brookeborough, Knocks and Cooneen area.

Administered by the Fermanagh Trust, County Fermanagh’s community foundation, the Teiges Mountain Wind Farm Fund is available to community projects within 5KM of the wind farm. Small one-off grants are available for various activities up to a maximum of £2000. Grants over a one to three year period for longer strategic programmes involving a number of organisations are also available.

Since the fund opened in 2017, £400,000 has been awarded to local organisations. This has supported a range of activities such as defibrillator instalment, sports, educational, history, music and social programmes and events. Groups have also benefitted from capital programmes and minor venue improvement, including Brookeborough Playgroup.

Playgroup Leader, Sharon Wilson, said: “The staff, children, and parents of Brookeborough and District Community Playgroup are truly grateful to receive funding from Energia towards improving our outdoor play space. As we are based in a small community, it can be difficult to fundraise large amounts to make these much-needed improvements to our playgroup. This funding will help us to improve the learning outcomes for the children in the local community for many years to come.”

Rosy Billingham, Community Engagement Manager for Energia Renewables added: “It’s great to see the range of community projects that the Teiges Wind Farm fund has been able to support and the positive impact our grants are having in the immediate area at a time when many groups are struggling to find funding. At Energia Group, we have aligned our responsible business activities with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and are keen to support projects promoting energy efficiency and sustainability. We’re now looking for new applications and keen to hear from new groups with project ideas which will benefit the local community.”

Closing date for applications is Monday 6th November 2023. For more information, guidelines and application form CLICK HERE or contact Tel: 028 66 320 210 / E: edel@fermanaghtrust.org
