Community and voluntary groups across Northern Ireland are being encouraged to apply to the newly launched Northern Ireland Community Infrastructure Fund (NICIF). A £4.32 million programme aimed at helping organisations improve and modernise their community facilities.
The Fund, launched by Communities Minister Gordon Lyons, will provide grants of up to £40,000 for over 100 individual projects. It is specifically designed to support minor capital works to community buildings, halls and facilities, ensuring they remain safe, functional and fit for purpose.
Speaking at a panel during the launch of the fund, Lauri McCusker, Director of the Fermanagh Trust, welcomed the news:
“It’s fantastic to see this much-needed Capital Fund for community venues launched by Minister Lyons. It’s very timely and will make a real contribution not only to improving over 100 facilities but also to ensuring these community venues are increasingly accessible, warm, energy efficient and up to date in terms of equipment and technology.”

What the Fund Covers
Funding will be available for essential works, including:
- Repairs to existing community buildings (e.g. refurbishment, roof work, or repairs to meet health and safety or building regulations).
- Small scale refurbishment or renovation to improve communal facilities such as kitchens and toilets or enable multi-use of premises.
- Accessibility improvements, such as ramps or lifts.
- Energy efficiency measures, including boiler replacement, window upgrades, insulation, heating systems or solar panels.
Application Timeline
- Expressions of Interest open: 1 October 2025
- Expressions of Interest close: 29 October 2025
- Full applications deadline: 9 January 2026
- Projects delivered: 1 April 2026 – 31 March 2027
Projects that pass the Expression of Interest stage will be invited to complete a full application.
