Applications are now open for the Diploma in Community Development Practice 2026–2027, providing a valuable opportunity for people involved in the community and voluntary sector to gain a recognised university qualification while developing practical leadership skills.
As part of the Investing in Community Volunteers Programme, offering training and development opportunities for volunteers, committee members and staff working across the community and voluntary sector in Fermanagh and Omagh. The Investing in Community Volunteers Programme is one of 13 programmes as detailed in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan, a project supported by PEACEPLUS and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
Accredited by the University of Galway, the one-year, part-time course is aimed at volunteers and paid staff who want to strengthen their understanding of community development and enhance their ability to make a positive difference within their communities. There are no formal educational requirements, with applicants simply required to be over 21 and actively involved in community or voluntary activity in the Fermanagh Omagh area.
Delivered by Fermanagh Trust in partnership with Rural Community Network, the Diploma combines academic learning with practical experience. Course modules include social analysis, social research techniques, community profiling, public policy and community development, strategic planning, social inclusion and civic engagement, equality and human rights, community participation and community leadership.
The programme offers participants the chance to explore the issues affecting communities today, while equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively and provide leadership within the sector. It also provides an opportunity to meet and learn alongside others with a shared commitment to creating stronger, more inclusive communities.

The course runs from October 2026 to June 2027 at Fermanagh House Enniskillen. Applicants will be invited to attend an informal interview following submission of an application form.
