Funding Opportunity for Belleek and Garrison Areas: Callagheen Wind Farm Fund Now Open for Applications

The Callagheen Wind Farm Fund, managed by the Fermanagh Trust, is currently open for applications. This fund, established by Callagheen Wind Farm Ltd in partnership with Scottish Power Renewables, aims to support community projects within a 7km radius of the wind farm, situated between Belleek and Garrison.

This fund represents a significant opportunity for local groups to secure financial backing for initiatives that enhance community life. Applications are welcome from a broad spectrum of community-focused projects, including those related to economic, social, and educational development. However, priority will be given to proposals that emphasise environmental sustainability and demonstrate a clear positive impact on the local community.

In the previous year, the Callagheen Wind Farm Fund successfully awarded grants to a variety of organisations across Northwest Fermanagh. Beneficiaries included youth organisations, sports clubs, churches, historical societies, music groups, and women's groups. These grants have been instrumental in covering essential running costs, supporting classes and activities that offer both learning and social opportunities, and facilitating minor improvement works. For example, Belleek Men’s Shed utilised their funding to organise pottery classes, contributing to the social and creative engagement of local residents.

Lauri McCusker, Director of the Fermanagh Trust, highlighted the importance of this funding opportunity for the communities of Garrison, Cashel, and Belleek. He stated, “The Callagheen Wind Farm Fund provides crucial financial support for initiatives that make a tangible difference in people’s lives. The fund has a proven track record of fostering community development and enhancing the educational and social landscape of the region. This is a clear testament to the benefits that wind farms can bring to local communities.”

Local groups and organisations are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to secure funding for their projects. The closing date for applications is Friday, 1st November 2024.
