Feb 25, 2009 - 10:42:51 AM

Community and Voluntary Organisations from across Fermanagh have benefited thanks to a series of grant awards in recent months.

Awards were made to a number of organisations including; countywide organisations Fermanagh Talking Newspaper; Fermanagh Voluntary Association of the Disabled, Friends of Fermanagh Hospice, Fermanagh Branch – Autism N.I. and the Senior Citizens Consortium; Sliabh Beagh Development Association based in South East Fermanagh; and locally based groups Boho Development Association; Belcoo  Community Playgroup and Carrowshee Park and Sylvan Hill Community Association based in Lisnaskea.   ‘‘Its terrific to see the community and voluntary sector so active at the minute right across Fermanagh and to be in a position to support so many good projects is terrific’’ explained Lauri McCusker , Director of the Fermanagh Trust.
The Trust grants include contributing towards the development community facilities in Lisnaskea, Boho and Belcoo. This  included the development of the first ever community facility in Carrowshee Park and Sylvan Hill in Lisnaskea, a major boost for the area which gives the community a fantastic opportunity to build on the excellent work the community association has done in recent years. The Boho Community Association have also been busy developing their premises and we are pleased once again to support the local community association in Boho in developing their extension. Belcoo playgroup has also been actively building their  purpose built premises with the Fermanagh Trust’s support.

Other projects supported include helping towards the cost of the new Fermanagh Hospice, contributing    towards the work of Fermanagh Voluntary Association of the Disabled, supporting Sliabh Beagh Development Association in their community relations work and helping Fermanagh Talking Newspaper upgrade their equipment.

‘‘Civil society places an invaluable role in the life of Fermanagh, and the Fermanagh Trusts grants assist towards this. It’s a privilege and honour to be in a position to help the excellent work all these voluntary run organisations do. We only wish we had more resources to help so many fantastic projects even further”,   outlined Mr McCusker.
